Chanie’s Potato Soup

With the cold weather sneaking up on us it’s always good to have a warm soup. This soup is from my sister chanie. What I like about it is that there are not many ingredients yet its very filling and easy to make. Enjoy it and I hope it warms you up.

Chanie’s Potato Soup

 
INGEDIENTS:
2 onions chopped
3 cloves of garlic minced
Salt and pepper to taste
3 tablespoons of flour
1 bay leaf
6 large potatoes cubed
10 cups of water
 
DIRECTIONS:
Place onions and garlic in a large pot (aprox. 6.5 liters) Sauté the onions and garlic till they are light to medium brown.
Add salt and pepper, mix and add flour mix again.
Add the rest of the ingredients. Bring to a boil and lower the flame. Let it boil for about 40 minutes.

Enjoy

Eggplant - Chatzilim Salad

One of my favorite vegtables is eggplant.

I use it very often in salads,main dishes or side dishes.

This salad is a salad my mother always made and is very simple with few ingredients.

Eggplant - Chatzilim Salad

INGREDIENTS:

1 medium onion

1 eggplant

1 red pepper

1/4 cup of ketchup

 

DIRECTIONS:

Chop the onion and Saute  till its brown.

Chop the eggplant and peppers add them to the onions cover the pot and let it cook for about 1/2 hour to 45 minutes. Add ketchup.

This salad taste very good when its hot or cold.

 

Potato Salad

 

This recipe I got from my mother in law and added my own twist. Like potato kugel each family has their own way to make potato salad.

This recipe is so easy that I can’t even give you exact measurements. But I will try to give you approximate measurements and you can adapt them to your liking.

Potato Salad

INGREDIENTS:

5 Potatoes

2 sour pickles

½ small onion

2-3 heaping tablespoons of mayonnaise

Salt to taste

 

DIRECTIONS:

Boil potatoes till you can easily stick a knife in. Run cold water over them briefly.

Peel the potatoes and let them cool off.

When potatoes are cool cut them in cubes. Cut the sour pickles and onion in small pieces and add them to the potatoes. Add the mayonnaise and salt. Mix altogether and enjoy.

 

 

 

Potato Kugel

A very traditional Shabbat food it Potato kugel there are probably 1000 ways to make it.

I would like to share with you simple recipe that I learned from my sister Sarah.

Potato Kugel

INGREDIENTS:

5 potatoes

1 medium onion

½ cup of oil

3 eggs

1 ¼ teaspoon salt

¼ to ½ teaspoon black pepper

 

DIRECTIONS:

Blend all together in the food processor.

Grease a pan and put the batter in and place it in a preheated oven on 180 for one hour or until you stick a tester and it comes out dry.
